North Ferriby United – Here Lies a Non-League Legend

11.10am 15th March 2019 – The date will stand in infamy in East Yorkshire, a club that have played and won at Wembley in the last decade are no more.

North Ferriby United should be a preparing to celebrate 85 years of existence this year but the club finds itself disappearing as an entity. As of just two years ago, they were just one step from the football league, the pinnacle for any Non-League side.

This season has been nothing short of a nightmare, winning just two games is a fate no fan wants to see but to be unable to fulfil all the fixtures in a season is the worst case situation. The worst part of the whole affair is that the debts of the club were £7,645.25 to a local turf company, a figure that would be brushed off as small change for the Premier League elite but has proven fatal for a Non-League side.

Where next? What is the next step for a side?

Well, this may not be the end for North Ferriby, as former chairman Les Hare has already assembled a consortium to revive the club as a community organisation and has begun the process of applying to re-entering the Non-League pyramid at the Northern Counties League level, the best outcome possible for the club to rise from the ashes.

Whatever the case may be, it is the hope of all football fans that we have a wide and diverse range of clubs competing at any level and North Ferriby should be helped back to it’s feet and allowed to build again.
